Jack's Tale Returns

The Ensworth theatre program’s recent production of Jack’s Tale not only served to allow students the opportunity to work with celebrated local guitarist and composer Paul Carrol Binkley, but it also gave new life to a beloved Nashville original.
Jack's Tale was created by legendary Nashville Children's Theatre Artistic Director Scot Copeland alongside Paul Carrol Binkley. It was developed at the Nashville Children's Theatre and featured at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, in 2015. The play had not been staged since Scot Copland's death in 2016, and the Ensworth theatre program is proud to have brought this exceptional piece of theatre back to the local stage.

Theatre students, led by teacher David Berry, were grateful for the opportunity to welcome an audience full of some of Ensworth's youngest Tigers who joined with their families for an exceptional Saturday matinee performance.

Equal parts heartwarming and hilarious, Jack's Tale features a seamless blend of Appalachian folk tales and Tennessee mountain music. We meet Giants, Generous Beggars, King's Daughters, and even the fearful Old King himself. And, of course, we all know Jack. He survives by grit, a deep knowledge that he can endure, and his faith in and compassion for his fellow man.

Ensworth's production of Jack's Tale took place on November 18 and 19, 2022.
