Ensworth MS Girls Tennis defeated BA 4-1 for the dual sweep this Fall. Singles points were captured by Gigi Dave' and Saunders Hull. Doubles points were won by the teams of Vaughan Banks/Alara Weitkamp and Mimi Bowen/Grace Hassellbeck. Final match vs Harding on Thursday. We'll see if tough schedule helps at the HVAC Championship on Saturday.
Ensworth Girls MS Tennis played a strong and deep GPS team to a tight match before barely dropping the match 7-6, The Bruisers won the doubles point, but the Tigers battled to split the 12 singles matches 6-6, thus dropping the match 7-6. Emma Conk and Selin Weitkamp did win their doubles match, byt the team dropped the point. Singles winners were Saunders Hull, Gigi Dave', Vaughan Banks, Ivey Weathersby, Tess Staelin, and Lila Butler.
Excellent play from both schools. The HVAC Chamionship is next Saturday.
Ensworth MS Girls Tennis were defeated by HH 3-2 in a match that could have gone either way. Big Effort from Saunders Hull as she avenged an earlier season loss and won our lone singles point. The doubles point was won by the team of Vaughan Banks and Mimi Bowen - they also were victorious in the earler match. An excellent overall effort. The Girls are still in HVAC Championship contention. Go Tigers!
Coach Greg Chambers is in his 5th year as the Tennis Director at Ensworth. Before coming to Ensworth, Coach Chambers was an Assistant Pro at Maryland Farms Athletic Club for three years and served as Tennis Director at Westside Athletic Club for 16 years. He has a USPTA teaching certification and has contributed to the development of players at every level from beginners to professional Grand Slam players. He is a current Board Member of the Tennis Nashville Organization, USTA TN and still enjoys playing socially and competitively while serving as Ensworth’s Tennis Director. As a player, Coach Chambers began competitive tennis at age 10 in Richmond, Virginia. Throughout his junior tennis career, he maintained a top 10 state ranking in each age division and went on to play collegiate tennis at Lipscomb University, where he played #1 singles and doubles all four years. He was a two-time Academic All-American while winning 74 collegiate matches. After college, Coach Chambers achieved a Men’s State Ranking of #1 in Singles and Doubles along with a #3 Men’s Singles Southern Ranking. The Lipscomb University Athletic Hall of Fame inducted Coach Chambers in 2002.
