Coach Maxwell has been the Head Baseball Coach at Ensworth High School for 14 years. Before coming to Ensworth, Coach Maxwell attended Middle Tennessee State University where he was an all-Conference player for the Blue Raiders baseball team in 1992 & 1993. The Chicago Cubs drafted Coach Maxwell in 1993. He went on to play professionally for 12 years, reaching the major leagues with the Cubs and the Minnesota Twins. In addition to coaching at Ensworth, Coach Maxwell has served on the Tennessee Baseball Coaches Association (TBCA) and the American Baseball Coaches Association Diversity in Baseball Committee, and as a coach for the TBCA Showcase Classic and USA Baseball teams. As Assistant Coach for 2016 USA 15U National Team, the team won Bronze Medal in the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) World Championships in Japan. As Manager for 2018 USA Baseball 15U National Team, his squad won a Gold Medal and the WBSC World Championship in Panama. As a result of this achievement, he was named 2018 USA Baseball Developmental Coach of the Year.
Walter Schultz is in his 13th year at Ensworth as a math teacher and assistant football and baseball coach. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Science and Mathematics from Vanderbilt University and an MBA in Marketing and Operations Management from Vanderbilt’s Owen School of Management. He also holds a master's degree in Education from Cumberland University.
Coach Schultz has almost 50 years of playing and coaching experience at both collegiate and professional levels. His coaching experience at Ensworth has included that of pitchers and first basemen. He currently coaches outfielders. He was also recently inducted into the St. Edward's Athletics Hall of Fame in Vero Beach, Florida and still holds several Florida state records in baseball and basketball.
Walter and his wife, Nancy, have had two Ensworth students. Chandler (’17) is currently a pitcher at Belmont University and Garrett (’19) is a senior who will play outfield at Xavier University.
