Tim Hasselbeck Joins Ensworth as Head Football Coach
Prentice Stabler, Ensworth's Head of School, announces the next football head coach:
It is with great pleasure that I announce Tim Hasselbeck as Ensworth's Head Football Coach. Hasselbeck spent six seasons in the NFL as a quarterback, most notably with the Washington Football Team (2003-04) and New York Giants (2005-06). He originally signed with the Buffalo Bills as an undrafted free agent in 2001 and played for the Philadelphia Eagles and Arizona Cardinals.
Since 2008, he has worked for ESPN, appearing year-round on SportsCenter, Get Up, and ESPN Radio. During NFL Sundays, Hasselbeck also provides post-game analysis on SportsCenter with Scott Van Pelt. Throughout his broadcast career, he has been an analyst on Fantasy Football Now, Fantasy Football Kickoff, the Monday edition of NFL PrimeTime, and ACC Network's ACC Primetime Football games.
Hasselbeck was a two-year starter at Boston College, where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in Marketing from the Carroll School of Management. In 2021, Hasselbeck was inducted into the Boston College Hall of Fame.
Coach Hasselbeck has been an active member of the Ensworth community for many years and served as a coach for our championship Middle School Football team for four years. Our hiring committee – comprised of Athletic Director Ricky Bowers, Associate Head of School Heather Caponi, Middle School Director of Admission and Head Baseball Coach Jason Maxwell, and myself – immediately recognized the combination of football acumen, commitment to character, integrity, and discipline, and deep love of Ensworth that Coach Hasselbeck will bring to this position. In Coach Hasselbeck, we see someone who will shape young men and who will be able to assemble and lead a talented and committed coaching staff.
Coach Hasselbeck's extensive experience as a former NFL player, analyst, and coach will be a tremendous asset to our football program. Ricky Bowers shared, "Tim's expertise, leadership, competitive spirit, and alignment with Ensworth's mission and vision make him the perfect candidate to continue building on our tradition of excellence and developing a winning culture. We look forward to seeing the positive impact he will have on our students and our football program."
From Coach Hasselbeck: "I am deeply thankful and honored for this opportunity to lead the Ensworth football program. Our family has been part of the Ensworth community for nearly a decade, and this Ensworth community has been like family to us. Our football team, as students of Ensworth, will carry the mission to pursue integrity and excellence on the field, in the classroom, and as contributors to the City of Nashville. Together, we will build championship teams as we discover the depths of character and resilience and find victory in unity. Go Tigers!"
From Coach Hasselbeck to our Ensworth families: "I am honored to, once again, be joining this incredible football family. For nearly ten years, Ensworth has been a big part of my family's life. The Ensworth football field was home to our kids' first steps in Nashville the day we moved to town. Elisabeth and I dropped off our rising 1st, 3rd, and 5th graders to make friends at an E Summer Camp before they even stepped foot in our home. This field is home to years and years of Cake Walks and Super Saturdays, where our family and many others played games like gum bumble and collected tickets for prizes. This field is where I had the unique opportunity to coach the Championship Middle School football team for four years alongside Maurice Hopkins. It is not lost on me that I will have the opportunity to coach some of those very same players as young men. This field is a gathering place where our Ensworth community is unified, and I cannot wait to step foot on it as your Head Coach with a mission of WE. It's good to be home."
Coach Hasselbeck will begin his role on January 3, 2024. Please join me in welcoming Coach Hasselbeck as Ensworth's Head Football Coach.
Go Tigers,
Prentice Stabler
