High School Students Sharpen Leadership Skills Outside of Class
Despite a full week of academic and athletic commitments, many of Ensworth’s high school students manage to find time honing their skills to be future leaders.
JPII Model UN Conference
A handful of students participated in a Model UN Conference at Pope John Paul II Catholic School on Saturday, September 15. Topics included nuclear disarmament, the illegal drug trade, and the Nashville transit plan. Although over 200 students from 20 schools participated, Ensworth came home with five awards, which were:
- John Smalley: honorable mention for best position paper and honorable mention for best delegate
- Anna Lapre: honorable mention for the best position paper
- Presleigh Murray: honorable mention for best delegate
- John Gibson Lewis: honorable mention for best delegate for a committee
Student Leadership Workshop
On the morning of Saturday, September 22, students will participate in a Student Leadership Workshop. All high school students—not just Student Government candidates—are able to participate in the low-pressure environment where they can:
- identify personal obstacles and strengths
- connect with others during team-building activities
- practice active listening strategies
- strengthen professional writing skills
- participate in a public speaking boot camp
Student Speaker Series
High school students have yet another opportunity to showcase their passions in the Student Speaker Series. The series provides students with the opportunity to share a story, express a passion, or bring attention to a cause. Ten-minute speeches are rehearsed during two coaching sessions and delivered during an all-school assembly or in smaller venues such as class meetings.
