Two Campuses Honor Veterans

Both the Lower/Middle and High School campuses are honoring our veterans with a variety of events and displays leading up to Veterans Day on Saturday, November 11.
The Lower/Middle School Campus reminded students of the sacrifices made by current and former members of the United States Armed Forces at a special assembly on Friday, November 3. The celebration consisted of the Pledge of Allegiance, a rousing rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner, and a reading from the children's book "H is for Honor: A Military Family Alphabet" by Devin Scillian

The High School Campus will host a series of events on Thursday, November 9 to honor veterans and educate the Ensworth community about their sacrifices. All veterans within the Ensworth community—faculty, staff, and families of students—are invited to be a part of the programming.

High School history teacher David Chanaca is particularly excited about the assembly speaker, historian Marty Morgan. "He's the Forrest Gump of World War II history," explains Mr. Chanaca. "He's everywhere."

Morgan is an author and prolific historical consultant, appearing on the History Channel and the National Geographic Channel, and consulting for Saving Private Ryan, Band of Brothers, and multiple video games.

Mr. Chanaca and Marty Morgan met on the Stephen Ambrose Historical Tours' alumni trip to Normandy in June 2016 and will be overseas together again with their upcoming Alumni Travel opportunities. The Summer of 2018 includes a return trip to Normandy as well as the official "Band of Brothers" tour, visiting locations of Easy Company, dramatized in HBO's 2001 miniseries.

Morgan is anticipated to captivate the high school audience in sharing about his most recent role as the historical consultant on the newly-released video game, Call of Duty: WW2

Following the assembly, Ensworth invites all attendees to sit in on Mr. Chanaca's World War II class from 10:25–11:15 a.m. in Room 303 of the Academic Building, with a panel discussion of veteran guests to follow from 11:15-11:50 in Elcan Athletic Center Conference Room. Before the festivities commence, we invite all guests to join us for a special luncheon in the Dining Hall from 12:10–1:00 p.m.
