Seasoned Artists Teach

by Michelle Andrade
Ensworth added two seasoned artists to the Arts faculty this year: Hannah Rowell and Jillian Duke.
Hannah Rowell joins Ensworth to teach Studio 1 and 2 in the High School Visual Arts program. At the beginning of the year, she observed, “As a new member of the arts faculty at Ensworth, I’m excited to help students explore and strengthen their skills and enrich their creativity. Drawing and painting provide a space for students to understand themselves and communicate with the world around them. It is a joy to see students grow and thrive as they discover their artistic voices through visual representation. The arts help stimulate innovation, collaboration, and transformation and can create life-changing experiences for students. I’m grateful for the opportunity to share this with the students at Ensworth.”

Last semester, she spoke to all Studio classes, including AP Studio, about her work that hung in Ingram Arts Center.

Jillian Duke also joined the team as the Visual & Performing Arts Program Coordinator on the Frist Campus. About coming to Ensworth, Jillian shared, “I have long held a deep value for arts education and its place as the building blocks of creativity and individuality. Here at Ensworth, my role as an arts coordinator is not only to help in the facilitation of art events but in the dreams and visions of both teachers and students as well. My hope is to share knowledge from my work as an artist and a lifelong learner so that I may continue Ensworth’s ideal of a well-rounded education.”

Jillian visited AP Studio Art Students and shared about the profession of being an artist. She recently completed a commission with The Contributor, a newspaper established in 2007 to provide an income for homeless people and initiate a conversation about homelessness and poverty.
