Writing Prose
Director of the Sewanee School of Letters, Justin Taylor, made a visit to Dr. Kevin Brown’s new Writing Prose class.
This elective for Grades 11 and 12 students offers the opportunity to read and write both fiction and creative nonfiction. Students read Taylor’s short story Flings and discussed his work and the art and craft of writing.
Justin Taylor is the author of the memoir Riding with the Ghost, which was published by Random House in 2020. He is also the author of three books of fiction, all published by HarperCollins: Everything Here Is the Best Thing Ever (2010), The Gospel of Anarchy (2011), and Flings (2014). His work has appeared in The New Yorker, Harper’s, Bomb, and Bookforum, among other publications. He has taught writing at the graduate and undergraduate level in programs all over the country, including Columbia University, N.Y.U., the University of Southern Mississippi, and the University of Montana.
