Ensworth Arts Presents Student-Directed One Acts

This past weekend, members of the Class of 2023 stepped across the director's table and led their peers in performances of two short plays by American theatre giant Thornton Wilder.
The Long Christmas Dinner and The Happy Journey to Trenton and Camden are vintage Wilder, each pushing us to see one another more clearly as they invite a heightened awareness of the fickle brevity of time and the precious value of the moments we share.

Student Directed One-Acts provide a unique opportunity for student leadership in the theatre program. Shepherding a production from script selection to performance is a fantastic culminating experience for our Seniors. They have been preparing for this role for years but also have the opportunity to engage in a new and valuable perspective on the process, from casting to orchestrating technical elements to the realities of real-time problem-solving.

Ultimately, the project allows students to grow into more robust, fully realized versions of themselves as they harness their intelligence, talent, and experience to lead the community they have learned from to new success.

Grace Heinrichs '23, Hailey Riven '23, and Maggie Clark '23 had the opportunity to work with Ensworth alumna Caroline Seitz '18, who joined Mr. Berry in producing the project and mentoring the directors throughout the process. Caroline is a 2022 graduate of Amherst College, where she led the student theatre.
