Hispanic Heritage Month - Red Gables

The heritage of Latinx and Hispanic people is studied in Spanish classes from Kindergarten through Twelfth Grade, so it is a joy to be able to gather in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month to continue the study and bring exposure to students who may not be studying Spanish at this time. Lower School and Middle School students presented songs and highlighted some prominent figures on the Red Gables Campus.
Grade 3 students performed a song they learned in Music class called "El Coquí." El “Coquí” is a very small frog from Puerto Rico that sings all night long until dawn. Students will learn the cultural aspect and related vocabulary. Grade 4 students lead the community in a part of the song Carnaval del Barrio from In the Heights. Grade 7 students shared autobiographies of Hispanic Americans, and Grade 8 students hosted the assembly.

Special guest Alejandro Riviera shared his Hispanic roots and offered local restaurants for students to visit to immerse themselves in Latino culture. Alejandro is Puerto Rican and Cuban. He is a Dance Director and Manager at Nashville’s Global Education Center and is very involved in the Hispanic community in Nashville.
