Veterans Day

Ensworth Honors Veterans with Special Celebrations

The Frist and Red Gables Campuses each honored the sacrifices of our veterans with special celebrations in the past week.
Last Friday, students at the Red Gables Campus experienced an engaging and moving program produced by Middle School history chair Ruby Cortner and performed by students. A series of student-researched segments detailing the history of the United States armed forces and Veterans Day was capped off by a reverent rendition of “America’s White Table.” The table and its rich symbolism have been a tradition in military dining halls and in the homes of those whose loved ones are prisoners of war or missing in action.

At the Frist Campus, veteran guests were welcomed to campus for the annual Veterans Day Celebration to be honored in a special assembly, participate in an intimate panel, and share a meal with the Ensworth community. The assembly included a performance of the Star-Spangled Banner by the Chamber Singers, student-written poetry, highlights of years-long student-led veterans oral history research, and more. Mr. Chanaca honored one long-time guest, Bill Crouch, who passed away in October at the age of 95 and was on the surrender ship in Tokyo Bay in 1945.

Enjoy these pictures from the two celebrations, plus a collaborative video featuring Ensworth students talking about or with their veteran family members and friends.
