Ensworth Announces New Head Basketball Coach

After a very successful 14-year run, Ricky Bowers has decided to step down as Ensworth’s Head Boys’ Basketball Coach, although he will continue in his roles as Athletic Director and Associate Head of School. Ensworth is excited to announce that Bradley Pierson will be the school’s new Head Boys’ Basketball Coach.
Bowers was named Athletic Director for Ensworth in May 2002, and he served as Head Football Coach from 2004 until 2018 and as Boys' Basketball Coach since the High School opened in 2004. In his 17 years coaching varsity basketball at Ensworth, Bowers has led his teams to five state championship titles in 2009, 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014.

Bowers shares, “This is the perfect time to change the leadership of our basketball program, as I am ready to redirect my energies toward other efforts, and Bradley is exactly the right person to lead this program into the next decade. The fact that he is already part of the program will enable him to transition into this role seamlessly and immediately begin building upon our strong foundation.”

Bradley Pierson has served as Ensworth’s Director of Basketball Operations and a High School Fitness Instructor since 2019. Prior to joining Ensworth, Pierson was the Assistant Athletic Director and Head Boys’ Basketball Coach at Darlington School in Rome, GA. He also served in Assistant and Head Coach roles at Sewanee, University of the South, where he played basketball during his undergraduate career. Upon graduating from Sewanee, Bradley obtained his Master of Education from Berry College.

“I feel extremely fortunate to have the opportunity to lead the Ensworth Boys' Basketball program,” says Pierson. “I look forward to continuing to help our students grow and flourish, guiding them in finding success on the court, in the classroom, and as active members of their communities. I would like to thank Athletic Director Ricky Bowers, Head of School David Braemer, and the Ensworth community for the opportunity to lead this respected program into the next chapter.”
