High School Students Learn New Skills Studying from Home

Students of the High School are learning new, practical skills through online learning during the quarantine.
Dr. Teresa Todd, French teacher, is renowned for making her classes culturally immersive. With the unexpected shift to online learning, this became much more difficult.

“I gave my students a cultural choice board where, once a week or so, they pick one of 25+ activities that are meant to be fun and instructional. These activities may involve watching a movie in French, reading a newspaper in French, or making their own French playlist.” As she often makes crêpes as a special reward for her students, she gave them a simple recipe using ingredients families would likely have in their cupboards.

William Vreeland ‘21 made blackberry and chocolate crêpes (pictured below).

Carmen Darst ‘23 made Croque Monsieurs, French hot ham and cheese sandwiches, for her family. And Morgan Humbert '23 made "tarte aux pommes," a french apple pie. Both are pictured below.

“In this time of stress, learning a new skill helps break the monotony,” Dr. Todd remarked.
