Miranda Marks and Teresa Todd

High School Recognized for Volunteerism

The State of Tennessee recognized Ensworth, along with the work of two High School students, at February’s Tennessee Conference on Volunteerism.
Ensworth’s Service Learning program, which is an important and integral part of the K-12 curriculum, was recognized with an award of Excellence for Schools.

Miranda Marks ’21 and Carrie Cohen ’20 attended workshops and presented their work on the “My First Books” service project. High school French teacher, Dr. Teresa Todd, who conceived and sponsors the yearly project, was also on hand for the conference recognition.

Conceived through the inspiration of a former parent who worked to alleviate the situation of the poor in Haiti, My First Books involves students authoring books for Haitian children. The students write, illustrate, and translate the books before sending them to Haiti.
