Ensworth beats Briarcrest in State Quarterfinals

The Tigers traveled to Memphis to face Briarcrest in the TSSAA State Quarterfinals. The only score of the first quarter was an 18 yard Tiger TD run by Charles Ingram. Early in the second quarter, Briarcrest tied it at 7-7. Ensworth and Briarcrest then exchanged two more TD's each (Gabriel McDaniel, 29-yard run; Gerard Bullock to Isaiah Horton, 80-yard pass) to head into the half tied at 21. The Tigers struck first in the 3rd quarter on an 11 yard run by Gerard Bullock to take a 28-21 lead.  Briarcrest scored a TD with 0:50 to play in the 3rd quarter, but the Tigers blocked the PAT to keep the lead at 28-27. Ensworth added a 4th quarter TD (Elijah Jenkins, 23-yard run), and Evan Cooley hit his 5th PAT of the night to increase the lead to 35-27 with 7:18 left to play. Briarcrest scored a TD with 2:37 on the clock to pull within two, but the Tiger D stopped the 2 point conversion to maintain the 35-33 lead. Briarcrest elected to kick it deep, and the Tigers ran out the clock to secure the 35-33 win and a trip to the State Semifinals.
