Ensworth Announces Roc Batten as New Head Football Coach

Ensworth has announced Roc Batten as the new Head Varsity Football Coach. The appointment marks a homecoming for Batten, as he was a member of Ensworth’s faculty and staff in the high school’s early years.
Batten originally joined Ensworth in 2005 and was Defensive Coordinator on the coaching staff that led the Tigers to their first State Championship. In addition to his coaching responsibilities, Batten was the school’s inaugural Director of Service Learning and was integral in developing the curriculum and international service programs. In his six years at Ensworth, Batten also served as an Admission Assistant, Track Coach, and Director of Summer Programs.

Most recently, Batten has directed the football program at Battle Ground Academy, where he has served as Head Coach since 2011. Under his leadership, the team reached the State Championship finals in both 2014 and 2018, and Batten was recognized as the DII-A Coach of the Year in 2016. Last fall, he received the Middle Tennessee Chapter National Football Foundation Bonnie Sloan Courage Award.

Ensworth’s Head of School David Braemer states, “Roc is more than a coach; he is a leader who will have a positive impact on Ensworth both on and off the field. Roc took his experience coaching on the staffs of championship teams at both MBA and Ensworth and built a strong, inclusive, winning, fifth through twelfth-grade football program at BGA. I have no doubt that he will be able to do the same in returning to Ensworth, given his familiarity with our school and match with our Mission.” High School Director of Athletics Ricky Bowers adds, “Coach Batten was a great asset to our staff when we were building the foundations of Ensworth’s high school, and we are honored to welcome him back as our Head Football Coach.

Batten shares, “I am honored to have this opportunity to rejoin the Ensworth community. I spent several years at Ensworth earlier in my coaching career, and it just felt like the right time to return. Ensworth is an exceptional school with great leadership, academic programs, and facilities, as well as talented faculty and students. I am looking forward to leading the Tiger football program and am excited for the upcoming season.”

In addition to his role as Head Football Coach, Batten will also serve as the Associate Director of Admissions for the high school.
