High School Student Enters Philanthropic Competition

Charlie Mahanes ’20 has entered the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s “Students of the Year” competition. If successful, there may be a clinical trial named after the Ensworth Class of 2020.
The competition is a leadership development program that fosters professional skills to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s state chapter. The title of “Student of the Year” is conferred upon the student to raise the most funds during the 7-week competition, January 13–March 1.

Charlie has already demonstrated his leadership ability by forming a team of fellow students to help in the fundraising effort. The “Tiger Stripes” of Team Mahanes consist of Ryan Crants, Audrey McGraw, Dante Rodriguez, Tyler Spissu, Malcolm Bryan, Tommy Gaither, Trent Sanchez, Aiden Wildman, Bella Chancey, and Jordan Yi.

Team Mahanes has already garnered publicity such as an interview on the Bacon on the Bookshelf blog where Charlie answers questions about Ensworth, his hobbies, and his grandfather, whose recent passing was the spark for the campaign.

The Tiger Stripes have also caught the attention of local merchants such as Christie Cookie in 12th South who donated 25% of their sales to the effort on Friday, January 25. To find out how you can support Charlie and his team, visit the Team Mahanes fundraising page.
