Lower School Enrichments

KidoKinetics (Grades K-1)

We focus on building confidence through play as kids move and learn new sports, and develop healthy habits while becoming their own MVPs. Parents can expect their kids to engage in technique-oriented sports activities that combine games, yoga, drills, and exercises that encourage basic skills and brain development. Kids learn a new muscle or bone during each class. Regardless of a child’s level or ability, KidoKinetics programs introduce basic concepts of 20 different sports in a safe, non-competitive, and fun environment. Classes and summer camps include obstacle courses, relays, games, and a sport.

Ukulele Class (Grades 1-3)
Time: 3:15 - 4:15 p.m.
Cost: $300 (10 Sessions)

This class will cover technique, notes, chords, and strumming to foster little ukulele players! The ukulele is very similar to the guitar but with fewer strings and gentler on small fingers. We’ll learn songs that everyone loves! Join your friends and start jamming on the ukulele! Students will perform a short concert for family and friends at the end of the semester. Program cost includes folder/music; does not include the cost of the ukulele.

Creative Writing Club (Grades 3-5)

Knitting Club (Grades 2-4)

Knitting Club is back! A true Ensworth tradition, children in Grades 2-4 will learn how to knit (or further develop their skills). Everyone will make a hat. All supplies will be provided.

DIY Fashion Accessories Club (Grades 1-2)

Calling all fashionistas who know how important it is to accessorize! Students will love having a hand in creating their own looks, from their headbands down to their socks. Each day will be a fun-filled, express-yourself art project centered around a new accessory that your child will be able to say, "I made it!" with every compliment s/he receives. (Limited to 16 students) 

3D Print and Design (Grades 4-5)

Have you ever wanted to build something on your computer, and then hold it in your hand?  We'll use Autodesk's Tinkercad to create toys and machines out of basic shapes, then we'll use our 3D printers to take our ideas from the screen into the real world.
 

Chess Club (Grades K-5)

Chess Club is an opportunity for K-5 students to learn the basics of chess at every skill level in a fun and entertaining way! Grades will be split up between K-1 and 2-5 so that each group has coaching tailored to their grade level. Each student will also receive a paid Gold Membership to ChessKid.com- a 100% safe and educational chess-playing site. We will create an Ensworth Online Club at the site to keep the fun going, whether we play chess in person or online!

Spanish Club (Grades 1-3)

Spanish club is a great opportunity for students to learn more about the Spanish language and Hispanic culture. We will explore these topics through games, crafts, dancing, and more!

Guitar Class (Grades 3-5)

Violin Class: Level 1 (Grades 3-5)

Violin Class: Level 1 is open to any rising Grade 3 through Grade 5 students who would like to learn to play the violin. Students will learn the fundamentals of posture, violin sound production, and how to read formal music notation. The curriculum is rooted in traditional and classical methods and mixed with engaging activities. The class will focus on sight-reading, rhythmic independence, and language development, along with phrasing and overall musicality. Students will showcase a short performance for family and friends at the end of the semester.

Game Time (Grades 1-2)

Sessions will consist of instruction, discussion, and application of skills related to building and maintaining friendships. Students will get to play different games each week as an opportunity to use these tools and receive coaching from the Lower School counselor. Examples of topics that will be covered are sharing, apologizing, and joining others in activities. Limited to 10 students.

Comic Con" (Grades 1- 3)

Do you like to draw? Do you want to know how to draw all the things? Grab a pencil and your sketchbook, and join Mrs. LeDuc for a fun class where you will learn how to make what you love come to life. Let’s dive into clay and make whimsical and enchanting mini woodland fairy houses or a mossy tiny house for a troll. Miniature in size yet packed with details, like a roof that is a mushroom, flower, leaf, or acorn, add tiny pebble paths, log fires, gardens, and colorful mushrooms! Get creative and ready for an engaging clay project. I’ve already made about 15 and want to make more with you! If you saw the Kindergarten Fairy garden houses by the Red Gables lobby, then you see how magical and fun this project can be!

MusicFun! is an early childhood program that explores movement, music, and
literature. Students explore rhythm and movement together through great stories,
beautiful songs, and fun instruments. Students are encouraged to sing old favorites and new melodies while discovering body awareness. Children have time to bond with each other in educational and creative ways.

CookiE Club (Grades K-6)

Supply Fee: $10 per session
Join us each month for the CookiE Club. Children will learn various techniques used in creating cookie masterpieces with royal icing. Each child will decorate at least six cookies each month, and every month will feature a different seasonal selection of cookies. Registration is available by month, come as often as you like. Cookies cannot be made with gluten-free options. (Limited to 12 students)

Junior Golf Clinic (Grades 3-5)

Join us for a fun and educational Junior Golf Clinic designed for third through fifth graders! Throughout five sessions, from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM, young golfers will have the opportunity to learn and practice essential golf skills in a safe and welcoming environment. Held inside the state-of-the-art golf center, each session will focus on different aspects of the game, including swing techniques, putting, and etiquette. Participants must bring their own golf clubs. Whether your child is a beginner or looking to refine their skills, our experienced instructors will provide personalized guidance to help them improve and enjoy the game of golf.

Remembering your "pleases" and "thank yous," learning the correct way to hold your cutlery, respectfully greeting other kids and adults, and showing positive body language are just a few lessons in manners and etiquette you will learn whilst sipping something yummy from a teacup around a properly set the table with Ms. Pitt and Mrs. LeDuc. We'll have loads of fun each week as we gather together, wiping our mouths with our napkins and not our sleeves, reinforcing the true meaning of etiquette: to always show respect and kindness to everyone and everything around us. Limited to 16 students.

The STEM Club for grades 2-4 is a fun and interactive group where students will explore science, technology, engineering, and math through hands-on activities and projects. Primer Violin Class is open to any rising Grade 1 through Grade 2 student who wants to learn to play the violin. This class will be rooted in traditional and classical methods and mixed with lots of fun games. Violin students learn the basics of posture, bow-hold technique, and tone production. Students will work together on foundational skills. Students will learn how to read basic formal music notation while learning how to play the violin! Class focus will include intonation, age-appropriate sight-reading, and the development of rhythmic independence, phrasing, and overall musicality through movement, singing, and playing. Students will gain valuable experiences exploring and playing music with others. Primer Violin Class will showcase a short performance for family and friends at the end of the
Semester. (Violin’s available to rent).

Percussion Ensemble (Grades 4-5)

The Music Staff Studio Percussion Ensemble is a fun, experiential class that fosters growth in rhythmic understanding and abilities. Curriculum reading focuses on notation, the formal written language of music. Class activities explain rhythm using mathematical relationships such as counting, division/subdivision, syncopation, etc.  Students have fun learning about world music, instruments, and culture.  At the end of the semester, families are invited to an “Informance” to show off their musical growth.
