P.J. Settles ’15 Named Semi-Finalist for “Academic Heisman”

P.J. Settles ’15, a senior captain and quarterback for the Rhodes College Lynx, has been named a semi-finalist for the 2018 William V. Campbell Trophy which recognizes the top football scholar-athlete in the nation.
While at Ensworth, Settles was a three-sport standout in football, basketball, and track, leading the Tigers to six state championships — three in football and three in basketball. His senior football season, he racked up over 2,200 total yards with 17 touchdowns. He matched his on-field excellence with a 3.8 GPA in the classroom.

Ricky Bowers, Ensworth’s Director of Athletics, Associate Head of School, and P.J.’s coach in football and basketball, said of him, “P.J. is just a remarkable kid. He's responsible, attentive, dependable, courteous and kind — pretty much every parent's dream — and not to mention, he's athletic.”

His senior year, Settles received both the Robert Inman Athletic Participation Award and the coveted Rob and Jennie McCabe Athletic Award.
