Tuskegee Airman Gets 100th Birthday Cards from Grade 3

Retired Sgt. Victor W. Butler, one of the last surviving Tuskegee Airmen, is turning 100. After a long life, he feels grateful for what he has and says he does not need any presents, just birthday cards. The May and Royse classes granted him his wish.
Grade 3 studied the history of the Tuskegee Airmen, the first African-American airmen in the United States military, through such books as Wind Flyers by Angela Johnson and The Tuskegee Airmen Story by Lynn Homan and Thomas Reilly. Sgt. Butler served as a mechanic in the famed group subject to racism both inside a segregated military and outside in the Jim Crow South.

Join us in wishing Sgt. Butler a happy 100th birthday on May 21!
