High School Students Spread Sunshine

Ensworth high school students, under the leadership of math teacher Jennifer Lawson, have partnered with an organization to spread sunshine to families dealing with childhood illnesses.
Spreading Sunshine’s mission is “to serve families whose children have critical or chronic illnesses by providing practical, emotional and spiritual support.” Through the organization, Ensworth students were able to help a family with two daughters suffering from Friedreich's ataxia, a rare neurological disease. Marissa, the 16-year-old, is already confined to a wheelchair.

Along with her sister and mother, Marissa stopped through Nashville on a whirlwind dream trip throughout the United States, made possible by Spreading Sunshine.

“The Executive Director, Diane Smith, reached out to our Ensworth team about this unique opportunity,” said Lawson. “Spreading Sunshine is helping coordinate this trip and Nashville is the first stop! The Ensworth students who work with Spreading Sunshine are helping plan the trip to Nashville with suggestions of things to do around town, gift cards, and getting together with them for lunch on Saturday, May 15.”

Apart from socializing and dining with the family, Ensworth students and their parents were instrumental in securing accommodations and entertainment to make this an unforgettable Nashville experience.
