Tyra Gittens at Ensworth

Tyra Gittens '17 Wins SEC Field Athlete of the Year Award

During her time at Ensworth, Tyra Gittens ‘17 became the most decorated female track athlete in Tennessee history. Her success continues at Texas A&M University where she was recently named the conference’s Women's Field Athlete of the Year.
In her senior year at Ensworth, Tyra won the region and state pentathlon and broke the state pentathlon record with 4,153 points. She helped her team win a state championship in 2015 and finish as runners-up in 2016 and 2017.

She finished her Ensworth career with 17 individual State Championships including:
  • 2017: pentathlon, 100m hurdles, 200m, long jump, and high jump
  • 2016: pentathlon, long jump, high jump, 100m hurdles, 200m
  • 2015: pentathlon, long jump, high jump, 100m hurdles, 200m
  • 2014: pentathlon, high jump
At Texas A&M, her standout performances continued with such accolades as SEC Freshman Field Athlete of the Year and 1st place finishes in the Women’s Heptathlon and Women’s Pentathlon at the SEC Indoor Championships in 2018 and 2020. This year’s performance earned her the Cliff Harper Trophy as the individual high scorer.
