Lower School Students Prepare for World Language Week

Students in the Lower School are preparing for the upcoming World Language Week by participating in activities related to the week’s theme: “Lovely: Finding the Lovely in Ourselves and Others as We Travel the World.” World Language Week is April 15-19.
In Spanish and Chinese, Grade 1 students read the book Lovely by Jess Hong, a book that reminds young readers that despite our differences, we are all lovely. A video called “Lovely” will be forthcoming.

Chinese teacher, Caitlyn Harris, explains another creative project: “Second and third grade students painted the words ‘LOVE,’ ‘FRIEND,’ ‘FRIENDSHIP,’ or ‘PEACE’ in Chinese and Spanish on rocks, then decorated them with beautiful colors and designs. Each student will hide his or her rock somewhere in Nashville or beyond knowing that their lovely sentiment of community will make someone’s day when it is found! The third graders painted a rock for their kindergarten reading buddies to hide, as well. Señorita Morales and Harris Laoshi will hide some ‘lovely’ rocks on campus as well for some lucky students to find.”

The older students in the Lower School will try their hand at the game “Nashville or Not” to see how well they know Nashville’s diverse array of multicultural opportunities. Parents can also watch a video similar to the game and see how well they know Nashville, too.

Stay tuned to Ensworth’s blog and social media for the other ways students in the Lower and Middle Schools will celebrate World Language Week.
