Senator-Surgeon Bill Frist Urges Students To Service

2/19/2010
Former U.S. Senator and heart transplant surgeon Bill Frist spoke with students at Ensworth High School today, urging them to "get outside your comfort zones" and take part in volunteer service in the US and internationally. In a presentation that included images and narrative of his recent medical service in Haiti, Dr. Frist encouraged the students to learn about human problems like hunger, HIV/AIDS, and water quality and take the available opportunities to visit other countries and cultures. He noted that skills learned in school, such as writing and communication, are lifelong tools for clarifying thought and developing plans of action. The physician reminded his audience that "we're all in this together" around the world.
