Tearing Down the Walls

This summer I spent my service learning time at a conference called “Tearing Down the Walls.” Tearing Down the Walls is an organization that is used to provoke conversations about issues in the world around us. The conference's purpose is to build leaders and problem solvers in the next generations to comeand to to breakdown barriers. The conference included many different students from within the private schools in the Southeast. Though many of our schools shared many similarities, many of our experiences were different. The conference made me more aware that many of the issues that I may not experience on a day to day basis, are still very relevant and experienced by others more frequently. This realization brought to me that many of us are ignorant to certain inequalities if they do not affect us directly or often. During my time of research I look forward to continuing to see how certain groups of people often overlook inequality.

Along with this, I will look into ways that have furthered this shift into the idea that inequality is no longer as relevant because if anything it is even more important and relevant today.
