National Museum of African American Music

Over the Summer and throughout the school year I will be volunteering at the National Museum of African American Music. The National Museum of African-American Music takes you through the development of African-American music from its origin to the present day. At the museum, I have the privilege of helping people around the museum by taking them on tours and helping to answer and ask them questions to help them better understand the impact that African-American Music has had on all different styles of music. I chose to volunteer at The National Museum of African American Music because music has always been a big part of my life. I have been singing since I was tiny and am involved in Ensworth's music Ensables, Encore, and Rock Band. I have also taken Music 1 and 2 which gave me a deeper understanding and therefore appreciation for not only singing but all other aspects of music. At the National Museum of African-American Music, I am able to use my appreciation and knowledge of music to help expand other people's understanding of music, specifically African-American music and everything it has created and has to offer. For My Service Scholar project, I will be researching the History of African-American Music.
