Fitness and athletics are important components of the overall Ensworth program. Ensworth High School students participate in a unique fitness program required in the curriculum. Each student has a program designed specifically for him or her and spends at least three hours per week with skilled instructors in the state-of the art fitness center.

Athletics at EHS offer students the opportunity to compete in the entire range of TSSAA-sanctioned sports, plus swimming, ice hockey, and lacrosse. Facilities include 5 basketball courts, football stadium, soccer field, baseball field, 8 tennis courts, 8 lane track, 5 practice fields, driving range and cross country course.

"Ensworth desires to be countercultural. We want to build a tradition of competition where success is not measured by comparison to others but by the standard of excellence we expect of ourselves.Individual statistics and subjective awards have minimal value here at Ensworth. We celebrate selfless action, sincere encouragement, intelligent play, and intense preparation. We seek not to find our value in the score on the board, rather in the intensity or our effort, in the depth of friendships created, and in the excellence of our attitudes. Our focus is in our willingness to prepare to win, not in the winning itself.

Athletics at Ensworth is an exciting and joyful experience for participants, families and fans. Join us!"

Learning to be physically fit and cultivating healthy lifestyles are important parts of the curriculum beginning in Pre-First Grade. Lower School students participate in regular Physical Education classes and enjoy outside playtime and recreation. Middle School students continue regular PE and have the opportunity to represent Ensworth on athletic teams that compete in the Harpeth Valley Athletic Conference (HVAC). With the Middle School's "no cut" approach, every student can have a team experience at the appropriate level.

"Ninety percent of Ensworth's Middle School students participate in at least one team sport each year, and many play a different sport each season. Being a team member is a valuable experience, helping students learn to work together toward mutual goals, give their very best individual effort, and set and achieve personal goals. Our student athletes are guided by the Athlete's Pledge that emphasizes sportsmanship and integrity. With our "no-cut" approach, every student can have fun developing skills and trying out different sports; yet Ensworth can play at a very high level in HVAC competition. We invite you to come cheer for the Tigers!"
